Our History
In 2016, while working for a luxury piano brand's factory, one of our founders witnessed a heartbreaking situation: a 16-year-old piano virtuosa, recently arrived from Cuba, was brought into the showroom by a piano teacher friend. The young pianist, had never stepped foot in a brand-new piano gallery before. The moment she entered, she was not only mesmerized - she was deeply inspired. She played every piano in the store, losing herself in the sound, the feel, the experience. There simply weren't enough hours in the day for her to enjoy them all.
Unfortunately, her parents - like many newly arrived immigrants - had no credit history and no budget to afford a real piano.
At the teacher's request, the piano factory agreed to temporarily lend a used piano to the young student. But only a few weeks later, the company asked for the piano to be returned to inventory.
Moved by this unjust outcome, a small group came together, purchased a used piano, and gifted it to the young woman.
This eye-opening experience led to research that revealed a shocking fact: in our very own county, an average of 90 to 100 pianos are discarded into landfills each year. From this discovery, NAFPICON - The National Foundation for Piano Conservation was born.
Shortly thereafter, the foundation was officially established and granted 501(c)(3) nonprofit status by the IRS. Since then, our founders and members have been working tirelessly to make the vision a reality.
